Pilgrim’s Progress

16 10 2009

A few days ago I started reading Pilgrim’s Progress. I’m ashamed to admit that I’ve never picked it up before, despite it sitting on my shelf for years.  I’m really enjoying it: it’s awesome that a book written 400 years ago can be spiritually encouraging and uplifting to someone today.  It’s also very cool to me that John Bunyan knew the same Jesus as I do.  With all the super-celebrities in the church (and unfortunately, the pseudo-church too) writing books today, we shouldn’t forget about the cloud of witnesses who have gone before us and that men and women like Erasmus, Augustine, and Gregory (despite my theological differences with some of them) were on the same path as we are today, walking with the same Spirit to lead them.
